A library is the best gift one can think of for the underprivileged children. “Antonym Shishu Shathi Gronthagar” is one such gift for the 130 children of Prunendu Smritee Shishu Shiksha Niketan, which was established as a primary school in 2014.

Antonym Community of Global Art and Literature (ACGAL) took up the initiative of curating this wonderful library at the premises of Purnendu Smritee Shilpogram, Dhandali village in Uluberia of Howrah district. The library opened its doors on 6th March, 2024, with the purpose of instigating reading habits and creative pursuits among the school students. More than 350 books including comics, fables, fairy tales and classics are available for the kids to sit and read, as well as taking home a bag full of happiness.

It brings a feeling of joy and fulfillment to The Antonym team to see the lit up faces of the children, as they jumped and shouted to grab the colorful books. This humble effort is just the beginning, as we plan to add more books to the library in future.

Apart from issuing books, The Antonym has plans to conduct sessions of reading, storytelling, book makings and children’s plays in future as an ongoing effort. In fact, a children’s play rehearsal started with lot of enthusiasm from the students. The play will be staged on 2nd April this year.

The Antonym team wishes to take part in many more socially useful projects like this one.
