Life is Different but You are Not

I want to take the colors
And tear apart the canvas
From the inside.
All I see is black.
The roiling tide
Needs somewhere to go.
I thought this was better
But time is not a healer.
And I am a fool.
I’ll sit in the dark
But I know what I see.
Do you know what you say?
Do you know what it means?
The pain is in the details,
And the thorns are in my side.
They are different now,
But they’re still there.
And I still don’t know
What I don’t know.

Dear Mr. Steinbeck – I am Listening

What people don’t
Realize
Is that life is like the tide
I can turn
At the snap of my fingers.
Bring you in
And make you leave again.
The day is as dark
Or bright
As I decide,
The sun
A fickle object.
The day is
Wrought
With my plans
And words
And thoughts
And you cannot
Take it from me.
Watch me stand
At the whirlwind’s center
And give it direction,
Give me direction,
For I am the tide
And the tide is me.
Watch me
Be in
Control.
