TRANSLATED FROM THE BENGALI BY AMANITA SEN

Journey

Putting down her anklets,
the girl went out of sight.

She might return or maybe
she is not willing to come back again.

Those who went looking for her,
however, should be back soon.
It is important for them to return

and let it be known to all
that she was not embarking upon
the extra-marital way
and that she has not been raped.

Unmindful, she was simply walking
a few steps.
